Important Changes to Your Pitzer College Google Account

Action required. Google has reduced Pitzer’s cloud storage allocation. As a result, Pitzer must enforce 5GB storage quotas on Google accounts belonging to anyone who is not a current student or Class of 2025 graduate. Additionally, alumni access to Google Drive and Google Photos will be discontinued later this year.

Who is affected

All alumni who graduated prior to the Class of 2025
Any Pitzer faculty or staff with a Pitzer Google account
(Current students and recent graduates will receive a separate communication.)

What’s Changing

A 5GB total storage quota will apply to your Pitzer Google Account (combined across Gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, etc.).
Alumni access to Google Drive and Google Photos ends Monday, December 1, 2025. Remaining Drive and Photos data will be permanently deleted on that date.

If you are over 5GB after quotas are enforced, you will not be able to create or store new files, and email send/receive will be blocked until you are under quota.

What You Need to Do (Start now)

Export or move your data to a personal account, service, or device.
- Use Google Takeout to export Gmail, Drive, Photos, and other data.
- See Takeout guide
Verify your storage usage and delete originals after migration.
- Check usage at drive.google.com/settings/storage (sign in with your Pitzer account).
Bring your Pitzer account under 5GB before the enforcement dates below.

Tip: After confirming your files are safely exported, delete the migrated content from your Pitzer account to reduce usage below 5GB.

Key Dates (Pacific Time)

Immediately: Begin migrating data; delete migrated files from your Pitzer account.
Friday, September 26, 2025: 5GB quota enforcement begins for accounts using over 100GB.
Monday, October 27, 2025: 5GB quota enforcement begins for all remaining accounts.
Monday, December 1, 2025: Alumni Google Drive and Google Photos access ends; any remaining Drive/Photos data is deleted.

Back up your files for you,
Provide copies of your files on physical media,
Move your files to another storage service on your behalf.
